Abundant wildlife, mountain peaks, and calving glaciers to form icebergs are among the familiar images in Alaska. Its capital city, Juneau, is among the places in Alaska which is inaccessible by road. Although good roads connect some places, yet most of the towns may be accessible only by planes, ferries, and cruise ships.
The Denali National Park is Alaska's top attraction which accommodates a wide variety of visitor use which include mountaineering, backpacking, wildlife viewing, It is the home to many wildlife including bears, caribou, and moose. Dominating the landscape is Mount McKinley which is North America's highest peak at 20,320 feet (3,048 meters) above sea level. The visitor center provides activities such as sled dog demonstrations, rafting around the Nenana River, and flight-seeing.
Fairbanks is the second largest city in Alaska. During the winter season, the much longer hours of darkness make this place a good place to view the Aurora Borealis (also known as the Northern Lights) - a phenomenon of dancing lights in the sky. Other attractions include the World Ice Art championships in March, the Fairbanks Ice Museum where ice sculptures are preserved, the Pioneer Park which feature historic buildings from Alaska, and gold mining adventures for the families.
